New Big Kitchen Guide to Local Food
Institutional chefs now have the help they need to incorporate locally grown food into their programs with a new DVD and guidebook from JABA.
The DVD--Meal Programs: Feeding a Crowd with Local Foods--gives a step-by-step, hands-on explanation of how to incorporate local foods into institutional menus. Will school lunches ever be the same!
To order a copy of either or both the DVD and guidebook, contact Judy Berger at 434-817-5234.
Voice Your Choice Program
Want to continue your quality of life at home rather than in a nursing home? Get in on a pilot program offered through JABA: The Voice Your Choice Community Living Program, which provides you with a monthly spending account to pay for a menu of services. An Options Counselor will help you develop a customized plan. If you are over 65 years old, have an income at or about $2,000 per month and are likely to be denied Medicaid, contact the JABA Information & Assistance at 434-817-5222 for more information. You can also download a brochure here.
Vounteer Satisfaction Abounds at JABA
JABA volunteers are the heart of JABA so recently we surveyed 600 volunteers to evaluate how pleased they are with their experience. The results were extraordinary! 92.8% of those surveyed are satisfied or very satisfied with their volunteer experience. A general theme was that volunteers get back more than they give. For more information on how you can register to volunteer, go to the Volunteer Opportunities page or contact Martha Williams (434-817-5245). Martha can send you a full copy of the survey results or you can read a synopsis here.
EBT Comes to C’ville’s Downtown Farmers Market
Patrons of the Charlottesville's City Market no longer need cash to pay for their veggies because the market is now equipped for electronic balance transfer (EBT). Also SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients can use their allotment to purchase local produce. Click here to find out more about how the EBT program works.
JABA and OLLI are Partners in Learning
The OLLI office at UVA has announced a new partnership with JABA. OLLI members who provide 30 hours of documented community service through JABA will receive a $25 discount on OLLI tuition and JABA volunteers who are new to OLLI will receive a free course. To learn more, contact Martha Williams, JABA's Manager of Volunteer Services at 434-817-5245.
