About JABA

Pet therapy in JABA's Adult Day Health care

JABA has served the elderly of Central Virginia and their families since 1975. As a non-profit Area Agency on Aging, JABA provides the care, planning and services essential for persons to remain home and to stay active and productive. Services are available to all, regardless of ability to pay; fees for certain services vary based on income.

But JABA is not just the area agency on aging. Through innovative partnerships and in response to community needs, JABA has reached out. One important "save" ocurred in 2001, when JABA worked with the City of Charlottesville, the County of Albemarle and private partners, including Sunrise Senior Living, to reach out and save an assisted living facility in Crozet that was in danger of closing. That facility, now named Mountainside Senior Living, continued to be home for more than 100 low income seniors, and now operates in the black with a mix of low-income auxiliary grant residents and private pay residents, while keeping costs affordable.

Above and Beyond

Unlike many other Area Agencies on Aging, JABA has expanded its mission beyond the requirements of the Older Americans Act, and now has several affiliates that operate under the JABA umbrella. As a quasi-governmental organization, JABA, the core organization, receives funding from the Older Americans Act, the Virginia Department of Aging and from local governments.

JABA Inc. is the entreprenuerial entity that allows us to expand services and diversify our revenue base. JABA Inc. offers for-fee services, such as Adult Day Health Care and Care Coordination, that not only provide valuable services but help support the JABA programs offered at no or little cost.

Jefferson Elder Care is another important JABA affiliated non-profit organization whose board of directors are responsible for operating JABA's Assisted Living Facility, Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet, Va..

Both JABA inc. and Jefferson Elder Care are non-profit 501(c)(3) corporatins licensed by the SCC.

In Addition

Care Advantage Plus, LLC, is a for-profit in home care agency that provides in-home personal care, companion/home health aides, respite support, licensed nursing care and staff relief. JABA also works with a number of other businesses that provide low-cost senior housing, such as Woods Edge in Albemarle, the Ryan School Apartments in Nelson County and the Shelter Group, Park View at Pantops.
