Support

JABA is all about lending support to seniors in need of assistance. Whether that includes basic information, case management, insurance counseling, home delivered meals — or any of the many other available services — we want you to think of JABA as a source of support for you or your loved ones. Most of our support is offered as a gift to those who cannot pay. See individual programs for more details.

Give

JABA is able to do all that it does because of generous volunteers and donors. We value contributions of time as well as dollars and promise to put your talents and your donations to very good use.

In the past five years, government funding has diminished. Luckily, individual and corporate contributions have begun to rise. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and needed.

AGE WAVE UPDATES FOR YOUR INBOX

JABA launches 2020 e-newsletter to help communities prepare for the Age Wave

Charlottesville, VA—- (April 1, 2010) JABA announced today the publication of the premiere issue of its 2020 e-newsletter. Plans call for the free e-newsletter to be published bi-monthly and to cover the full range of topics affecting communities planning for the Age Wave that already has begun.

The 2020 e-news was conceived and designed by JABA as a way to build on the original 2020 Community Plan on Aging. The award-winning plan was developed in 2003 to help the communities in the Thomas Jefferson Planning District prepare for the dramatic increase in the senior population that will occur by 2020. It covers a wide range of topics with the common focus of helping to make Central Virginia more livable for all who call it home.

“Creating a community that is good for seniors is good for all generations,” said Gordon Walker, CEO of JABA, “but JABA and its partner agencies need to continue to implement solutions and build on the significant progress made since the Plan was released in 2003. There is still much to do. Our intent with the e-newsletter is to keep the conversation open and active. We invite anyone interested to join in that conversation.

Editor and primary author for the e-newsletter, Julie Ulrich, spent the past four months pulling together information and sources for the new publication. “The original 2020 Plan was the work of more than 85 organizations and 500 individuals,” said Ulrich. “As those numbers suggest, ensuring that a community is livable for all ages encompasses any number of elements and expertise. We’ll be examining housing options, supportive community amenities and services, mobility options, and opportunities to engage in civic and social activities, and more.”

How to Sign On

The 2020 e-newsletter is free. To be included on the mailing list, contact Julie Ulrich at julrich@jabacares.org. JABA welcomes article submissions, as well as readers’ comments and feedback.

More About the 2020 Plan

The 2020 Plan won the “Livable Communities for All Ages Award”, a national competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
Administration on Aging. The plan was recognized for its comprehensive, age-inclusive approach to preparing for the dramatic increase in the region’s senior citizen population by the year 2025.
