Support

JABA is all about lending support to seniors in need of assistance. Whether that includes basic information, case management, insurance counseling, home delivered meals — or any of the many other available services — we want you to think of JABA as a source of support for you or your loved ones. Most of our support is offered as a gift to those who cannot pay. See individual programs for more details.

Give

JABA is able to do all that it does because of generous volunteers and donors. We value contributions of time as well as dollars and promise to put your talents and your donations to very good use.

In the past five years, government funding has diminished. Luckily, individual and corporate contributions have begun to rise. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and needed.

What’s good for us as we age is good for our entire community — from planning for neighborhood growth, to promoting local foods and collaborating for the best use of resources. This is the philosophy behind JABA’s mission, “to promote, establish and preserve sustainable communities for healthy aging that benefit individuals and families of all ages.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOME LOCAL MEDICARE D SUBSCRIBERS MAY NOT BE COVERED

JABA offers help to affected subscribers during Special Enrollment Period

Charlottesville, VA—- Recently, WellPoint, the parent drug company for all Anthem Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans, disclosed that approximately 4,600 beneficiaries who had enrolled with WellPoint at the end of last year had not been properly informed that their plan was being terminated in 2009. As a result, these individuals are currently not covered. However, they are eligible for a special enrollment period (SEP) allowing them to enroll in another health plan or prescription drug plan. Beneficiaries eligible for the SEP were sent a letter from Medicare shortly after July 6, 2009 informing them of the situation.

“In our region these policies were sold under names SmartValue Classic and SmartValue Plus,” explains Phyllis Payne, Health Insurance Specialist with the Virginia Insurance Counseling & Assistance Program (VICAP) at JABA. “The special enrollment period is limited to July, August and September 2009. This makes it important that anyone receiving a letter should call us immediately, so we can help them with the process and get them enrolled in something different during this limited period.”

Medicare is urging affected subscribers to keep the letter informing them of their eligibility for special enrollment as proof their right to enroll in a new plan.
