Help a senior in need by providing companionship.

Participate in JABA’s Neighbor to Neighbor Program

Would you like to provide support and lift the spirits of a senior living at home or in long-term care? Are you a senior who feels isolated and would love to chat or do an activity with someone for an hour each week? Does your loved one have early dementia and might benefit from companionship?

JABA’s Neighbor to Neighbor program connects seniors in need of companionship and volunteers who enjoy a good chat and helping out from time to time. Read more about the Neighbor to Neighbor program below, then call 434.817.5226 to learn more about requesting a volunteer or becoming one.

Request a Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer

If you or a loved one needs companionship or caregiver respite for one hour a week, consider participating in Neighbor to Neighbor. Screened and trained volunteers visit their senior friend once a week to engage in mutually enjoyable activities and conversation. Some of our volunteers receive additional training as dementia friendly visitors. Please note that JABA volunteers are not professional care providers. A home visit is required to determine if the program is right for you and to make the most appropriate volunteer match.

Become a Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer

Make a meaningful connection with an older adult by volunteering one hour a week as a friendly visitor through JABA’s Neighbor to Neighbor program. JABA will screen and train you, then match you with someone based on geography, mutual interests and availability. Special training is provided for volunteers who are interested in visiting individuals with early dementia.

Additional Neighbor to Neighbor Opportunities

Do you like to drive? Consider becoming a food delivery driver for Neighbor to Neighbor, delivering monthly food boxes to homebound seniors. You can also volunteer to drive homebound seniors to the store, pharmacy or to important medical appointments.

Would you or your service group like to help homebound seniors with one-time home or yard assistance needs? Typical projects include raking leaves, weeding and painting.
